General Ekkachai Srivilas says he and other peace experts invited to meet with the prime minister today helped one another frame what the country should look like in five years’ time following the ambitious national strategy.

 

Ekkachai – a former member of the now-defunct National Reform Council and a director of the Office of Peace and Governance at King Prajadhipok’s Institute – said the experts invited to sit on the government initiated committee on reform, reconciliation, and national strategy or Por Yor Por agreed that the country should focus on human development so it was well developed like many other nations including Singapore.

Removing basic rights through the threat of force isn't peace. It's continuous violence. Wonder if this "peace expert" understands how repressing society is like pulling a rubber band, and then when it snaps back, people somehow act surprised. Certainly, this is driving the conflict, not a long-term solution for peace.
