PM warns NGOs, Rainsy

Prime Minister Hun Sen issued a strong warning yesterday to NGO officials who analyze politics, while also repeating that there will be no amnesty for former opposition president Sam Rainsy. Speaking at a groundbreaking ceremony for a new road, Mr. Hun Sen told NGO workers that they need to act like civil society organization officials and not engage in political analysis.
 

“If NGO officials do something that affects the rights of others, they will face legal action. This is legal action, not the action of Hun Sen,” he said. “You are NGOs, do not mess up. Do not think you have every right when you become an NGO president. Do not think that you are an NGO and you have the right to do anything.
 

“You have rights, but you will be imprisoned if you do something wrong that violates the rights of others.” Mr. Hun Sen stressed it would be the courts, and not him, that would take legal action against any NGO that failed to heed his words.
