Visa confusion

Featured Replies

I'm travelling to Thailand for 63 days (11th April until 13th June). Flying in direct with BA from London.

I'm totally confused about the visa situation.

I'm planning to visit Malaysia, Vietnam and Taiwan by plane whilst in Thailand.

Question is... when I board the BA flight in London am I going to be asked to prove that I have a flight leaving Thailand within 30 days or would they not be interested.

Once leaving Thailand within the 30 days and then flying back in again , do I get another free 30 days and can i do this multiple times?

Thanks in advance

if you hold a british passport, probably no one would asking about the returning ticket. British passport is allowing to stay up to 30 days if reach Thailand from those international Airport, while only 15 days from those border immigration.

I was thinking the border was increased from 15 to 30 days as well.. but can have only 2 per calendar year.....

You now get 30 days on visa exempt at land borders limited to two per calendar year.

You may be asked to prove that you will exit Thailand within 30 days, maybe someone else can comment for BA specifically. If your first exit is within 30 days, you may use that as proof.

Expect that also other airlines in Asia may ask for an exit ticket while you're travelling back and forth.

Yes they might ask for an onward flight. If they do they should accept a flight to anywhere.

Yes you get 30 days.

Yes you can do it multiple times. Two or three entries shouldn't be a problem, but immigration are tightening up on people using the scheme too often so you might, at some point, get questioned about what you're doing in Thailand. The more entries you make the more chance of being questioned.

BA check in will almost certainly check for an onward flight out of Thailand within 30 days when you are traveling without a visa. I recommend you have one. Without, one, you might be able to convince BA that immigration in Bangkok will not care (the truth) and get them to waive the requirement, though you may need to sign an indemnity form first. It is less likely that regional airlines will care about the onward flight tickets.

I would also suggest you have a hotel booking for your time in Thailand with you on arrival and 20,000 baht in cash, dollar or Sterling equiv'. Officially a single person should have 10,000 baht, family 20,000

Hotel booking you can do on line and print before you fly.

It is most likely that you won't even be asked for these but?????

Make sure you fill in the address of the hotel on the landing card they will supply on the flight, I've seen it being asked for lately at Imm' on arrival.

You are arriving for Thai New Year. You should book hotel rooms for at least the first week especially if you are going to a tourist town.

Their is no easy answer to your question.

You may be asked if you do not have a Thai  visa for an out of Thailand ticket after  your first 30 days of stay in Thailand.

That all depends on the airline and it's policy.

Some airlines enforce that rule t, some don't.

If you plan to travel to another country in South east Asia within 30 days it might be wise to purchase an onward ticket for that flight BEFORE you leave  the U.K.

In that way, if you are asked by the airline you choose for an onward ticket out of Thailand you will already have one already....problem solved.

But there is no certain way to tell if the airline will enforce that rule before you board your flight for Thailand except asking them before you leave the U.K.
