An hallucinating naked Finnish man spent three hours trying to evade rescue workers after going to for a late night swim in Pattaya on Friday evening.

Witnesses say Timo Perttola, 32, who is believed to be on holiday in Pattaya had been drinking in bars along the beachfront when he had what rescue workers described as a ‘strange turn’.

Police and rescue workers were called after Timo took off his clothes in front of stunned onlookers before jumping off a pier into the chilly sea water below.

More than three hours later and rescue workers were unable to persuade Timo, who by now was more than 1km out at sea, to climb aboard one of their two rescue boats. Timo was apparently convinced the rescuers had come to attack him.

Eventually he climbed aboard and was taken to hospital where he received stitches for a small wound.

However, no sooner had he been seen to by doctors he checked himself out of hospital and disappeared into the night.

Marine officer Kittichai Satadchacha, 26, said: “The man just ran to the end of the hill and jumped into the water. He swam to the middle of the bay and I hurried to inform staff to help.

“I don't know how anybody can swim in the sea for that long at night time. Whatever he had eaten he had a lot of energy.”

A spokesperson for Pattaya City Police said: “He was hallucinating but we don't know why. He had a slight injuring that he received stitches for but he was very agitated.

“After receiving medical treatment he was allowed to return home. We have no explanation for his behaviour.”

Probably eaten a lot of magic mushrooms...

"Mr. Perttola, as you know it is our companies policy to do a routine search for job applicants names on google, and as you can see..."

Yawn.. Just another night in patts. At least he had enough sense not be wearing a gold necklace

Yet another spiked Tourist

Fins are not to be messed with be warned

Can imagine a nasty infection after getting a wound and

swimming in that toilet bowl for a while....

All that fecal matter and urine entering that wound on his head.  Sadly he probably caught some kind of viral infection.

No word on what happened to his clothes and belongings?

Basically just jumped in naked and left all  that matters behind.

Hope the guy gets well soon.

1km out lucky he did not drown

Whatever he had eaten he had a lot of energy .... guess what he eat

Dont worry , he is the Finnish champion in swimming. Combine that with magic mushrooms and he can swim all the way back to Finland.

Looking for a Pattaya "Safe Zone" maybe.

Climate change is really real....:coffee1:

Checked himself out and left without paying the bill?  No doubt the staff just didn't want to bother man handling him at the time.  Try being sick and fragile and owing a bill and I bet you won't be able to walk out of the hospital so easily

Just another idiot! Amazing how they so often turns up in Pattaya. Must say something!

What kind of alcohol do they sell in the Safe Zone Pattaya??? Is it the copy copy stuff??

“I don't know how anybody can swim in the sea for that long at night time. Whatever he had eaten he had a lot of energy.”

Probably an overdose of Pappaya pok-pok.....amfetamine doowai!!

Just another Reggie Perrin wannabee !!

picked the wrong berry?

Obviously a bad reaction to drugs and/or alcohol. Very glad to hear the BIB take it all in stride.

For all their bad reputation for corruption they do do a remarkable job when they encounter

a psychotic/high/drunk member of the public. They very much try to deescalate conflict.

At least that has been my experience. Whether a local Thai or tourist, they try to calm

things down. Good for them and glad the guy is OK.

Pattaya Police--Their pretty bloody lenient with tourist aren't they. I know of many other tourist orientated countries...where at the very least he would have faced the court and asked for a payment for the boat/fuel/overtime/ medical expense  etc...... instead he goes home with a mai pen rai.

He's lucky to be going home at all. Swimming while off your head is not highly recommended, especially when the water looks like poo soup.

We would have to ask our resident specialist "Eddie --the nose" about that...he is renowned to be able to spot Hugh pipes that where only installed 4 years ago--& claiming his 5 minutes of fame for reporting them.

Hmp.  I guess tourists DO come to Pattaya for the nature.

Where do these tourists come from!

Mars?

Lucky for him there are no sharks in that area.

All the poop etc would increase the water density, making "treading water" easier... maybe he was actually walking

Don't suppose he was given a blood/drug test to determine what someone slipped him?

Yes people, including myself, have been slipped a micky a few times over the years in some popular Walking Street bars, by the staff. By the time I realized what had happened it was too late!

It must have been the Shark Fin Soup :shock1:
