Rimmer Posted March 10, 2017 Share Posted March 10, 2017 Wheelchair bridge project delayed until April PATTAYA:-- Originally estimated to be completed in April, construction of a new wheelchair-accessible pedestrian bridge over Sukhumvit Road now will begin that month. Tithiwat Anuruthikul, head of operations for the Central Road bypass tunnel project, said Feb. 28 that work on the overpass near the Redemptorist Vocational School for Persons with Disabilities now will not begin until after the tunnel opens. Delayed from its February opening, it is now hoped the tunnel will begin service on Songkran Day, April 13, a Thursday and the start of a five-day holiday weekend that will see some of Pattaya’s highest traffic levels of the year. He said preliminary work on the long-delayed footbridge already has begun, covering architecture, water management, electricity and other utilities that must be moved. Not saying peeps in chairs are 2nd class citizens but maybe the powers that be have chosen to give priority to get this tunnel online asap to help alleviate traffic congestion.
