Wheelchair bridge project delayed until April

PATTAYA:-- Originally estimated to be completed in April, construction of a new wheelchair-accessible pedestrian bridge over Sukhumvit Road now will begin that month.

Tithiwat Anuruthikul, head of operations for the Central Road bypass tunnel project, said Feb. 28 that work on the overpass near the Redemptorist Vocational School for Persons with Disabilities now will not begin until after the tunnel opens.

Delayed from its February opening, it is now hoped the tunnel will begin service on Songkran Day, April 13, a Thursday and the start of a five-day holiday weekend that will see some of Pattaya’s highest traffic levels of the year.

He said preliminary work on the long-delayed footbridge already has begun, covering architecture, water management, electricity and other utilities that must be moved.

Delayed, delayed, delayed. Probably keep getting delayed.

Disabled people are 2nd class citizens, so who cares, certainly not the people in power.

Not saying peeps in chairs are 2nd class citizens but maybe the powers that be have chosen to give priority to get this tunnel online asap to help alleviate traffic congestion.
