Tropical storm to intensify in upper parts of Thailand later this week

BANGKOK, 14 March 2017 (NNT) - The Meteorological Department has warned residents of the Northeast and North of Thailand to brace for a tropical storm this week.

The tropical storm will bring thunderstorms and hail to some areas in the upper parts of the country. The storm is expected to intensify later this week, as a high pressure system from China is now moving across the Northeast of the country.

The Central Plains and the East Coast will also be slightly affected by the storm. The temperatures across Thailand will begin to decrease by the end of this week, as westerly winds from Myanmar offset the high pressure trough in the northern and northeastern regions.

People have been urged to stay indoors and remain vigilant when leaving their homes, as strong winds could knock over unstable objects and topple large trees.

I'm at Laksi plaza, heard rumbles of thunder and can see a big black cloud way off towards Rangsit way.

So if it blows this way it will probably be raining tailless cat's and soi dog's in 30 minute's.

Yeah, it's right by us in Pathum, plenty of flash-and-bang with wind, no rain. The lawn is looking expectantly at the clouds but no cigar :(

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

Good luck to all who will get wet by this storm, hope it fills up some

of the reservoirs in the areas that are under drought conditions now.

Geezer

I wrote this a week ago already: there are no Tropical Storms in Thailand in this season.

The person who wrote this nonsense apparently has not the faintest idea of meteorology. He is also a bad reader, because TMD does not mention a Tropical Storm.

TMD warns that SUMMER THUNDERSTORMS are possible in N, NE and central Thailand.

Thunderstorms are a local phenomenon, Tropical Storms and Typhoons cover a much larger area.

If it starts raining in Bangkok and area tomorrow and through the weekend, then I

will have dodged that bullet, going back to Canada tonight. Good luck to all!

I think the city could use some rain to wash out the air, and clean the klongs a bit.

Geezer

They have their weather event definitions mixed up. The power of true tropical storms (sub typhoons) actually weakens over land. I think they mean another kind of major summer storm. Any local storms around right now are local (convectional).

Thunderstorms are forecast die tomorrow through to Sunday. Hope they happen late at night. I love to fall asleep to the sound of a thunderstorm.
