SURAT THANI: -- Banphot Chotiphan, the 74 year old samlor (trishaw) rider who returned a wallet to a South African policeman on holiday in Surat Thani, received a certificate of honor from the police yesterday.

The grateful South African, Rachendeen Ayer who has a Thai girlfriend, then reiterated his promise that he will be sending a monthly

allowance to Banphot who he described as honest and an example to all.

Police said the poor samlor rider had brought honor to the province and the country.

He returned a wallet that contained several currencies totaling 100,000 baht after it was lost by the owner on the 9th of March.

Let me get this straight, a guy gets an award in Surat Thani then winds up in a klong in BKK???

Great, PatOngo! Like that version. Of course there isn´t any other explaination. :cheesy::cheesy::cheesy:

"Banphot Chotiphan, the 74 year old samlor (trishaw) rider who returned a wallet to a South African policeman on holiday in Surat Thani, received a certificate of honor from the police yesterday...Police said the poor samlor rider had brought honor to the province and the country."

News and awards are about extraordinary acts and unusual events that do not occur in everyday life. When the headlines and front page coverage and photos concern an isolated act of honesty, this is all one needs to know about the moral fiber of the culture in question.

Why pray tell, would you be walking around with that much money in

your wallet to start with? most of the people around don't have that

much in their safe or under the matrasses let along in their pocket..

As for the reward, well, the way I see it, for every 1 wallet returned there

are probably that aren't, still, one is better than none....

Lost my wallet twice in Thailand in 15 years, both times returned with all its contents (both times between 15 and 20k).  I see a bunch of negativity above but the truth is I suspect the odds of that happening where I am from would be not good.

Similar to me, dropped my wallet in HH, went to the police station the next day on the off chance it had been handed in and to my surprise it had . Even more surprisingly all the contents were there. Albeit it only had just over 1000 baht inside plus my bank cards but it was all there

Nice one some honesty at last Well Done That Man

Most Thais are honest (tongue in cheek) lol

Elderly man elderly values.

Good luck to him, looks a little bewildered by it all !!!

Lets hope he follows through this guy is deserving.

He is just extremely lucky that his wallet was found by the samlor driver and not any idiotic punks or drug addicts.

Instead of a certificate and seeing as how he is 74 years old, a monthly stipend from the top might go a long way to help.

I agree but they seem to be using him for his photographic value only. They are locked on to a submarine mentality. Nothing else but a few crumbs here and there seem to be on their radar. As one well known university professor here stated and I believe his name started with a T stated that the junta had wasted their 3 years in power to bring real reform. Its a world wide problem Trump is gutting good issues and funneling the money to the military. Guess that tells you who controls things even in a so called democracy.
