SARABURI: -- A public prosecutor in Saraburi province has been ordered to be transferred to an inactive post at the Office of the Attorney-General pending an investigation after he was implicated in the smuggling of about 179 million baht worth of African rhino horns into Thailand.

The rhino horns were intercepted at Suvanrabhumi international airport on March 10. Arrest warrants have been issued for two females suspected to be involved in the smuggling and initial investigation implicated Pol Maj Worapas Boonsri, Saraburi deputy provincial prosecutor.

A report from the OAG said that two police officers, one of them was later identified as Pol Maj Worapas, were seen escorting a luggage as it was carted by two women to go through immigration and customs checks.

The two men later escaped and the luggage was found to contain 23 rhino horns weigh about 49.9 kgs.

The report said the attorney-general, Pol Sub-Lt Pongniwat Yutthapanborikarn had attached great importance to the case as it involved a lot of rhino horns and that the case had attracted a lot of public interest.

When I see that large rhino horn, it conjures up ideas of what I'd like to do to the smugglers.......and it's NOT an inactive post!!!

Once again those guardians of law and order are found to be in the middle of a major crime. Wonder what the % is of crimes not involving RTP are. Oh and the unreported ones which I would imagine far exceeds the ones we hear about !! Maybe it's in the job description when they apply to join. You must be able to show imagination and ability to carry out whatever crime you can to rob everyone you come in contact with. If caught be able to run !

Ah Corruption you see it here you see it there, its bloo>> everywhere in this neck of the woods, There are fine upstanding members of the human race in this location NOT

When even a public prosecutor - and a high-ranking police officer at that - is involved in a serious crime like this, there really is no hope for the justice system in this country, is there?

Look at these horns. Each one represents one dead rhino. It is truly disgusting!

You  just hope some people are going to do hard time for this,

not just those trying to get the horns through customs,Thailand

needs to show the World it is serious about animal and parts

smuggling.

"The two men later escaped......"

Why does that not surprise me in the slightest?

The Chinese are the buyers, and as Thailand is a colony of China. What else can we expect!

"A public prosecutor in Saraburi province has been ordered to be transferred to an inactive post..."

Another transfer to an inactive post. That should make every crooked public official shake in their boots.

Imagine the outcry if any foreigners were caught in this...

Transferred  what a bloody joke, how many rhinos killed for that amount of horn.

A high ranking prick gets tranferred, should be hung out to dry.

20 years in jail, and his assets confiscated.

Next thing will be his excuse, i was drunk at the time didnt know what i was doing.

Yes the punishment should fit the crime.

I agree with everything you said, but we both have to acknowledge that those people are caught or Arrest warrants have been issued to catch them, by police officers that probably have higher standards of honesty. They caught the rhino horns as they could have closed there eyes and take a bribe. 179 mill, can pay a lot of bribes.

On the other hand this case is not finished yet !!!!

Best regards.
