Lights dimming

Featured Replies

Hi we bought a new house here.

There are 3 ac unit and 2 showers

. It doesn't matter what ac unit or shower is working but when one is turned on all the lights dim and if a fan is running then that slows down.

Even when the water pump comes on its the same problem.

It feels like not enough electricity is coming in.

Any ideas what this is.. thanks

Yep, seems you are max'd out on electrical current. Drawing too many amps when multiple appliances are used simultaneously.

It certainly looks like a volt-drop issue. The odd flicker of a light when a load comes on is nothing to worry about, but consistently low voltage can cause problems for your appliances, it needs looking at.

What size meter do you have (5/15, 15/45, 30/100)?

Do you have a multimeter? If so please measure the supply voltage at the distribution board both with the aircon off and with it on.

Are you getting power direct from MEA/PEA?

Can you give us some idea of how far the house is from the meter, how far the meter is from the village transformer, if you can see the cable size at the meter that would be useful.
