BANGKOK: -- Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva said on Thursday that the weapons found in a recent raid in Pathum Thani, linked to a red-shirt leader, would have no impact on the ongoing reconciliation efforts.

Those found to have committed severe offences must face legal action and must not exploit the case in the name of reconciliation, he said.

Abhisit agreed with the efforts to crack down on the use of war weapons, as that would guarantee there would be no escalation of conflicts as in the past, when heavy weapons were used against opponents.

It became more difficult to deal with when weapons were used, he said of past experiences.

The former premier said he had no problem with strict legal enforcement, especially against proliferation of war weapons, along with reconciliation efforts.

Agree 100%. Enough with the division and time for Thai's to come together as one. Stop the yellow and red politics it's getting Thailand nowhere quick, IMO as a foreigner living here. In other words, move on, though I do think that a country run by the military is not helping the reconciliation process. Diplomacy is the name of the game, finger pointing and article 44 clampdowns is not helping this process. If only Abhisit was in charge, I'm sure he'd do a much better job.

... so long as Abhisit remains the military favorite for the next PM.

I tend to agree however miracles take a little longer , leopards don't change their spots,  time just evolves, Mark had a great agriculture policy last time, something that wasn't appreciated , but there U R you can't please everyone not even the PTP or the Shins....................................:coffee1:

I'm not so sure there will be much reconciliation Mark, I'm not even certain that those weapons weren't planted, having a Junta in power you never certain what's true and what's not ,  even if reconciliation is agreed on, give it 2 years and it will run out of steam , they can't help themselves, W .....................................:coffee1:

You noticed that to. The word protege comes to mind. Grooming him to take over the mantle from the master.

IMHO the Democrats under Abhisit are unlikely to win an election, no matter how they votes are counted. Under Korn they may stand a good chance but Abhisit is tainted from 2010 and even if many of the voters aren't the smartest in the world they do have long memories.

I hope your right. Like water torture the present government is grinding down the peoples will to resist. They like governments around the globe use phony figures and alternate facts to try and convince the masses that progress is being made. I was rather surprised at the poll saying 70% of workers are unhappy with their job and looking for betterment. Money obviously being the number one complaint. The new sub tax sorry alcohol and tobacco excise tax revision is not going to play out in the peoples favor. People hate when you meddle with these two.
