The measures will be strictly enforced within 30 days, They say...

This will be actually interesting to see how many centuries it will take to get it done. as Songran is coming...

We Europeans took it pain in the ass when it was introduced in Europe long time ago and as normal in the beginning no one like it, now it works and no one even think about it in general...but in here, well this most likely gonna take next 200 yrs to get it work, or maybe longer

Part of here is interesting what is about seat belt, ALL Passengers must use it in the private cars and in the taxis...

here is the whole story: <link to Bangkok Post removed per forum rules>

And nothing to address majority of traffic issues and accidents, caused by or involving 2-wheeled vehicles.

and what about the 12 in the back of a PICK-UP.

The measures will be strictly enforced   :cheesy:

Judging by the frequency helmets are worn nationwide, I would say this law will be widely ignored by vehicle occupants and actively sabotaged by van drivers by disabling or tying up the seat belts.

73% of road deaths are 2 or 3 wheelers. I think we all know that. Most of the M/C accidents occur on rural roads in and around the villages where it is very rare to see a police patrol. That is where the action is really needed. I see nothing in this article that will address that problem.

And, as mentioned earlier. Nothing regarding passengers riding on the bed of a pick-up. Another dangerous practice which should be banned.

The article to which the OP refers to is, none the less, well worth reading. It is quite critical in many ways.

There was a push to get seatbelts used about ten years ago. I remember a TV show about funny things that happened to police. One episode featured police telling motorists to buckle up. One older driver remonstrated that his seat belt (fully extended) was useless for him. It was obviously made for a fat guy. How could that save him?

Stand outside any school in the country when school is out! the Police will be there, as will hordes of kids with no crash helmets, some with three or more pillion passengers! (& off course the obligatory load/illegal exhaust!)

Would this not be a better starting point? teach them some road sense when they are young!

In other articles there is also talk of stricter enforcement of no ridership in the back of pick-ups (an existing law as well I believe). The front page article in the newspaper that dare not speak its name on ThaiV this morning said that the pocket general has invoked 44 to ensure that no-one will be throwing water from the back of trucks this Songkran.

Personally I wish it would happen, but the general is gonna have to send out squaddies onto the streets of every meuang processional route to get some traction with that one. Change village life? No chance.

I was just on a fairly full baht bus, standing on the rear platform as I've done for years, the driver stopped and angrily said to me "Mister you must sit inside". No explanation, just really rude.

I gave him the 10 baht and said "There's your money now BYE BYE YOU RUDE MAN".

Everyone on the baht bus started laughing at him, he was furious. WOT A RUDE PR**K

I don't think that's rude. It's similar to being asked to put your seat belt on. Are you sure they were laughing at him. I don't get it.

Wouldn't have been laughing at the driver, would be the poster they were laughing at, driver got his money, he'd be laughing.

You got fleeced for b10 and taught a lesson in responsible passenger management and you come on here thinking you been hard done by. For 5 years drivers did not give a hoot about you and the one that does gets a mouthful. Hardly cause for concern. anyway talk about a storm in a teacup. Move over petrol attendant!

What about lights on vehicles that actually work. Never actually seen a bike or car checked for working lights.
