Expedia forecasts similar growth in foreign arrivals
By  THE NATION

BANGKOK: -- International tourist arrivals in Thailand last year grew by double digits from 2015, and the outlook for this year is for a similar level of growth, according to a survey by the Expedia Group, an online travel company.

The group reported that 2016 proved to be a solid year for Expedia hotel partners in Thailand. Given the current initiatives from the Tourism Authority of Thailand to promote the country as a preferred destination, 2017 looks to be another promising year for Thai hotels.

The top 10 sources of foreign tourists visiting Thailand are the United States, Hong Kong, Japan, the United Kingdom, Australia, mainland China, South Korea, Germany, Malaysia and Sweden, the firm says.

The top five destinations for foreign tourists are Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya, Koh Samui and Chiang Mai.

Expedia is primarily a technology company operating in the travel sector. It analyses data from a diverse range of travellers from more than 75 countries in 35 languages, with more than 600 million site visits per month.

It shares insights about traveller behaviour that can help its Thai hotel partners to optimise revenue by knowing when and where to target the right travellers at the right time with the right offer to help boost incremental demand, said Pimpawee Nopakitgumjorn, director of market management at Expedia Group.
