MFA reports better condition of “Nong Min”, urges travelers to get insured

BANGKOK, 30 March 2017 (NNT) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has indicated improvements in the condition of the Thai woman who fell into a coma during a trip in South Korea while reminding all of the importance of travel insurance.

Ms Busadee Santipitaks, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson and Director-General of the Department of Information, announced that Ms Rapeeporn Nasa-arn, or “Nong Min”, is recovering gradually and can now breathe by herself as she continues to be hospitalized in South Korea after suffering a sudden loss of conscience.

The spokeswoman said the Royal Thai Embassy in Seoul has provided assistance to the patient’s family in traveling to see her in South Korea. Since she did not purchase travel insurance prior to her trip, the manager of the hotel where she was staying as well as the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce where she studied are kindly helping with her medical expenses. Under the circumstance, Ms Busadee suggested that the family can also negotiate a loan with the Protection of Thai Nationals Abroad Division at the Thai Embassy in Seoul.

In addition, the spokeswoman revealed that Thai Airways International has offered assistance in transporting the patient back to Thailand while Rajavithi Hospital will provide her with further treatment. Taking this case as an example, she encouraged all Thais planning to travel overseas to get travel insurance beforehand as unexpected incidents could happen.
