Drought still a concern despite heavy rains

Drought still a concern despite heavy rains

NONG KHAI, 31 March 2017 (NNT) – Despite heavy rains over the past several days in northeastern provinces such as Nong Khai, reports have indicated reservoirs are still lacking a sufficient supply of water.

While rains have resulted in flooded farms in some parts of Nong Khai province, officials have pointed out not enough water has flowed into reservoirs with only 12.371 million cubic meters currently contained in the province’s 5 reservoirs, which have a combined capacity of 24.058 million cubic meters.

In Chiang Mai province, Royal Irrigation Department (RID) officials have held the second round of a forum to take in public impressions on improving the Mae Tang Water Development Project, positing to them three possible courses of action; maintaining annual repairs, rebuilding the project or revamping the existing system.

Ministry of Culture officials in Yala province meanwhile, have joined with other local bodies to construct a dike as part of a project in honor of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The dike will slow the flow of Betong canal, allowing for more water to be retained for droughts.

In the province’s Yaha district, military personnel have used sand bags to reinforce an existing dike in the hopes of preserving water supplies through the dry season. The effort is to complete before Songkran festivities.

yes great idea, save the water so they can waste all during Songkran by throwing it at each other. In any other country they would have water restrictions but here they let the people throw it away, then all the same people will bitch because there is not enough water for them to use, go figure....

Oh for Pete's sake...Songkhrahn is 5 days a year out of 365 and most of the water goes down the sewer and surfaces again in some other place!

You Songkhran - haters really have to get over yourself!

There are worse things, that happen to the water in Thailand!

Some is turned into Chang!

A drought despite heavy rains, Thailand the land of oxymorons, even the weather is a contradiction of itself.

I'll stop washing my car when they start closing down the golf courses.

As long as you wash the car privately maybe at a golf course everything should be ok.

This is Thailand, make ready for the flood.

In a country like Thailand which is still basically agriculture- and suffering from a drought- the very fact that they would allow the waste of water during any period is simply absurd. It's no wonder there is no respect for any Government announcement or police action. No one cares because it is only about money and greed.

So that's freakin idiot like you that waste water and think that's a lot of fun.  That just goes to show you that you have a very weak mind.  In Pattaya it last ten days and a couple of years ago a farang threw water at me although I asked him not to, result: he ended up with a broken nose and never threw water at me after that.  Just a friendly reminder.

DM07,  I agree with  you, Yes there"s water wasted on the fun, but it is a good festival. and people have to get overt their selves, and being green or

water wise. As for Gerard52, you must be a short fused kind of guy, who should stay indoors during Songkhran, not all Thais will let you away with

hitting them, and give you a knife in the ribs when you are not watching, just an observation to consider.

Geezer

You must be the life of the party!

Some people like it, I don't.  Not only that, all the drunks on the road, last year they had 500 dead.  A couple of times I went to Philippine, Cambodia or Malaysia to avoid it, I shouldn't have to.  In the wife's village they are a lot more civilized, it lasts 3 days and last year when I was doing my walk through, when I asked the kids not to, they didn't as they are not drunk like in Pattaya.  Pattaya is a freakin zoo, even Bangkok is not near as bad, they only have it in certain areas.

I don't have to act like an idiot to have fun or have an interesting life, maybe you do.  So why don't you grow up.

It might surprise you, but some of us actually ENJOY the wild madenss of Songkhran!

I do and I still know how to behave!

Not all of us think, that the ONLY and REAL way to celebrate Songkhran, is washing grandmas feet!

Not even all Thais think that!

Try to practize some tolerance!

It helps!

Last year they had 500 dead and over 3,500 accident on the road, maybe this year if your are lucky enough you could be part of the statistics and I hope you are, due to the fact that you like it so much.  I don't have to participate, in that childish, idioticand moronic event with a bunch of drunks to have fun.  If you look back at how it started, it was not near as retarded as it is right now.  I hope you don't croak, nah, I don't really mean it.  Have fun with those retards, it only shows somebody's IQ.

The death- toll is not due to the festival itself, but due to the fact, that laws in Thailand are not enforced!

It happens on Songkhran, it happens on New Year, it happens every single day!

Pull your head out of your @$$ sometimes, the oxygen might do you good!

You were out in the middle of Songkhran festival in Pattaya (a tourist place) and when you got some water on you (at a water throwing festival) you broke someone's nose?

Think you need to take a look at your decisions in life.....

and you are calling the majority of the Thai population, and all the tourists 'retards' with low IQ?

The death-toll is not due to the festival itself, I supposed it's due to the sunshine and warm weather.  For what I see, you are the one that was lacking oxygen to the brain as you seem to have a lot a dead brain cells.  Anyway, I am done arguing with a brain dead child, just go ahead and have fun and show the world your IQ, which seems very low and stay away from the road if you don't want my wish to come true.  Nuff said.

Last Songran out in the village was very reserved due to drought - literally no water in the pipes. Did see a few motorbike idiots about, but given enough time, they auto-cull themselves.  Whiskey + motorbike + open mouth breathing moron - minus helmet. Stir gently.

The Tessaban did a big water project and both reservoirs are full up again after last rain season, so reckon this year should be "normal".  First time several years ago was a fun, new experience but year after year.... meh... we stay off the roads and close to home.

Good plan, stay safe.

'Drought still a concern despite heavy rains': should this not rather be: 'Water management still a concern despite the many billions Baht invested'? This fiasco(!) is not the result of a lack of money, it has been caused by the usual plagues called greed and corruption, worsened by the absence of decent management and of valid specialised skills, and made lethal by the ignorance and selfishness of the general population concerned.

Do your parents know, that you are using their computer!

Wishing harm on other people!

Stay classy!

You sound like an old lady who always wants to have the last say and I am tired of arguing with a fool as I don't want to be dragged down to your level.  So enjoy the songkran with your drunken idiots and I hope that you live to tell about it, nah, I don't really mean the last part.  I am closing this chapter and until we meet again have a great day.  Good bye, Au revoir, Adios, Auf Wiedersehen, Tchau, Addio.
