Thailand wins grand prix award at International Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva

BANGKOK, 3 April 2017 (NNT) - Thai inventors and researchers won the grand prix award at the 45th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva in Geneva, Swiss Confederation. 

National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) Secretary General Sirirerk Songwilai disclosed that the NRCT led inventors and researchers from 30 agencies to attend the 45th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva in the Swiss Confederation, from 29 March - 2 April 2017. The international conference had over 50,000 visitors. 

Thai inventors and researchers in Thailand won this year's grand prix award from their invention, which is automatic screening for diabetic retinopathy through retinal imaging on smartphones. The innovation was the product of Thammasat University. The awarding ceremony was held on 31 March. 

In addition, Thailand's representatives also won major international invention awards including 9 gold medals with Mention, 22 gold medals, 36 silver medals, 24 bronze medals and 21 special awards from international agencies and organizations.

I could be wrong, not quite my area of expertise, but as far as I know this is not exactly groundbreaking or even new technology. Recall some very similar reports dating 2-4 years back. These mentioned Indian and US researchers and firms.

Well done, not often seeing positive things.

Definitely a good thing for Thailand.
