Man arrested for setting fire to estranged wife

BANGKOK: -- A man was arrested in Nonthaburi on Tuesday for allegedly setting fire to his estranged wife after she refused to reconcile with him, police said.

 

Sompote Sritawan, 26, was arrested at his house in Nonthaburi’s Bang Bua Thong district at 6am.

 

He was wanted on an arrest warrant issued by the Nonthaburi provincial court on Monday on charges of attempted murder.

 

He was accused of pouring petrol over Warinya Chan-on, 25, and setting her on fire at 5pm on Sunday. She was severely burned and has been admitted to Kasemrat Ratanathibet Hospital.

 

Sompote told police that he had been living separately from his wife for months following repeated quarrels over the death of their youngest son, who was killed in a car accident.

 

Sompote said he had been unsuccessfully trying to mend his ties with Warinya. On Sunday, he spotted her riding on the motorcycle of her male office colleague and he became angry and jealous and attacked her.

Sure he was offer his apologies to her and her family and that will be the end of it.

 

We read this several times a week, don't we? Thai man-child scorned, so he reacts by attacking the woman who from his reaction was quite right to reject him, by setting fire/shooting/attacking with a knife. Do they learn this from the nightly violence against women shown on tv, or does tv mirror society.

As said before, that how Thai men treat their wifes, there is NO equality, they are just piece of their possession and they can treat them like pieces of shit if they so desire and NO one does anything about it, They have a long way to go to approach acceptable standards

Not ALL Thai Men are like that , some Thai Females can be equally violent towards males as well

First her youngest son dies in a car accident. Then the husband gets estranged, and then comes back and sets her on fire. What a jackhole. I think her other kids want his blood AND his money.

Thais are very volatile and much of the time seem to be driven by angst.  I imagine the Thai soaps are made to mirror Thai's lives and emotions and they certainly seem to do that.
