Quick question about obtaining a non B visa before the 28th of April, but not using it until much later on June 18. Is this possible or do I need to use the visa right away once I get it from the Thai US embassy?

A single entry non-B visa is valid for one journey to Thailand within 90 days from the date of issue of the visa. Therefore, you can get the visa already now and travel with it to Thailand in June, and you will receive permission to stay for 90 days from the date of arrival in Thailand.
