Thais warn Facebook, Google, Line, YouTube: Our taxman is coming after you!

BANGKOK: -- The taxman is going after the big players in internet business for money for Thai coffers.

 

New legislation is expected to be in force before the end of the year that will see a huge windfall from the likes of Facebook, Google, Line and YouTube.

 

Old rules mean that such massive corporations can get away with paying threadbare tax for massive multi-billion baht business operations.

 

Much of the money in E-Commerce is being generated in computer and online savvy Thailand but the profits are going abroad.

Good luck! Even the most advanced counties have this problem. They normally supply jobs in countries where they can pay a pittance in tax. A catch 22. 

 

Anywho, could always be a good excuse to block their websites - they're not paying taxes. Can have your own Thai versions that are heavily monitored and censored. Mind you; I think the only thing that will get Thais to the streets again is if you take away their social media platforms. Be ready to have a 'passengers in the back of a pick up' style contingency plan.

Both super ideas…love the second one particularly…FB has turned people into morons.

Saw Google's camera vehicle in Pattaya a couple of weeks ago. If taxes cannot be collected, brown envelopes will suffice.
