Registration of a trading name

Featured Replies

Is it required or usual to register a Trading Name in Thailand (as opposed to just registering a business)? Could a Thai own the business but a Farang own the trading name?

The farang could own the IP (intellectual property) of the trading name in another country and licence the name to the Thai to use here, for a fee.    You' need the name to be registered in the other country and find a reason why the name couldn't just be registered here.

Look into international trademark laws.

Apple has an entity in Ireland that owns all its IP, that entity licences the use of the IP to Apple Corp in the US so they can legally transfer the bulk of their money to Ireland and pay less tax.

I'm structuring my company along similar lines.

Thanks for that but why couldn't I just register it in Thailand?

I am not looking to make any financial gain from this. I am just considering it as some insurance against being dudded by a Thai partner in whose name the business would be.

I'm not sure that you can do that here without having a company.

In the same way you are not supposed to be allowed to own a Thai domain name (*.co.th)  unless you own the business name to go with it.
