Six police among suspects interviewed; reports of moves to protect ‘big names’

 

MAE HONG SON: -- NO ARREST warrants had been issued for officers and officials allegedly involved in the Mae Hong Son child prostitution scandal |yesterday, raising suspicions that there has been an effort to protect high-ranking figures.

 

Commissioner of the Provincial Police Region 5 Pol Lt-General Poonsap Prasertsak said earlier that warrants would be issued |yesterday, but as of press time this had not happened. 

 

Instead, some of those suspected of buying the services of child prostitutes were summoned to Mae Hong Son police station yesterday. 

 

Six of the suspects were police officers – with one allegedly confessing to the crime and implicating two others – while another was a teacher. One of the officers was said to be a police lieutenant colonel. 

 

The suspects were told to |prepare cash for bail ahead of |warrants being issued.

 

One reporter claimed there had been an attempt to hush up the case, with officers withholding information.

 

Journalists were told that some providers of underage girls had been approached by police officers who tried to negotiate with them not to mention the “big names” involved in the case in return for their help in keeping them out of jail.

 

‘Threat to provincial bureaucracy’

 

A source in Mae Hong Son police said that high-ranking police officers and senior Interior Ministry officers were involved |in buying the services of child |prostitutes.

 

The source added that if the investigation team pursued the case thoroughly and honestly, there would be so many suspects arrested at the top level that the bureaucratic work of Mae Hong Son would face disruption.

 

One of the prostitutes, whose name cannot be revealed, said that in the recent years sex tours to Mae Hong Son had become very popular among the high-ranking officials who usually visit the province during winter for work and travel.

 

“Up to 90 per cent of the high-ranking officers who visited or transferred to Mae Hong Son used to buy our services. It was just like the ‘must-do’ activity when they come here to buy a ‘sweet treat’, so there was a system to allocate young girls for these officers and friends,” she said.

The PM said that every culprit will be prosecuted, when is that going to happen????

Too many big names involved, it will just be another massive cover up.

So the higher ups in Bangkok plan sex tours to Mae Hong Son That's what we did during Vietnam. Nothing has changed. I thought

the PM wanted to clean up Thailand's Image has the Sex Capital of the World. I guess they forgot to tell the Governor and School Director that this is a No No! Amazing Thailand.

Maybe the School Director was holding Sex Education Classes for the Governor's Friends in Bangkok! Lets have a Field Trip Guys!

move with caution so the accused parties will not point the fingers at more

people who took part in the free for all and before you know it no one

Well, sack the bloody lot of them, if that's the case and start afresh. Sometimes, things can not be repaired; you have go out and buy a new one.

Lift a stone in Thailand, and you will always find something nasty.!

Clearly these people always assumed that because of their position they would never be prosecuted. The cops don't know what to do, because every person they arrest will increase the likelihood of them being implicated when someone starts to sing.

I think we would all be totally surprised if a high level case did NOT have a cover-up.

These people have committed rape of minors.  They should be in prison, not out on bail.

Since May 2014 what has changed ? Nothing and nothing will change until the Thai people become brave enough to stand up against these thugs. The Thai system is so corrupt that it cant be reformed it must be broken down and rebuild.

Just when you thought they'd put the broom away, and sold the rug.

They are circling the wagons,their excuse might be ,nothing much

else to do in Mae Hong Son.

Thailand would eventually be the worst country in this region because investors would certinly be very afraid of such doings by the law enforcer! The time would come.

Just a few postings will fix it.

The General PM has a chance to do something about this situation in the North of Thailand.

  I hope that who ever that has gone to the north will investigate and then charge, or force

resign some of the top officials in the north. Guess we will all  have to wait and let some time

pass and see just what happens.

And they are right.  Don't hold your breath.  Your reasoning shows not that they will be prosecuted but that arrests will soon stop.  Meanwhile they put police all over the place on Sukhumvit with their cold stares making everyone uncomfortable and putting a damper on the mood while accomplishing nothing.
