Pattaya's police chief yesterday announced the arrest of four speedboat drivers and crew for smoking marijuana.

The boat personnel were taking tourists to Koh Lan for day trips then while their passengers were enjoying the day on the island the crew were taking off to secluded spots to enjoy their day with a bong.

But Apichai Krobpetch, the Pattaya chief, said such behavior was bad for the image of tourism so tourist police and soldiers got together to do a raid.

Two boats were used in the raid that netted suspects from three separate speedboats.

Those arrested were named as Kiatsak Hormwit, 47, Theerasak Krajai, 23, Benjarong Sukhonthapong, 26 and forty four year old Prawit Plengwaja.

A quantity of dried ganja and a bong were taken into evidence.

not for the safety of the passengers but for the image of tourism? swell!

what kind of twisted mentality and value of morality does a Chief of police Force have to have to make the SAME statement word-by-word and over-and-over everytime someone gets stabbed or a farang is beaten up to a bloody pulp by thai punks and this time on high-on-substance boat drivers who are clearly gambling on the safety of tens of passengers.

They were probably "grassed" up by a tourist pissed off that they were keeping it all to themselves.

I will be interested to know if they are charged with simple possession (2,700 Baht fine), or more serious charges.

something like 3000baht?

How on earth can you crash a speedboat in open water  ? fully understood now for all past present and future collisions injuring and killing tourists

It was really easy to catch them, as the boats were going at top speeds of 5 miles/hour...

All drugs are illegal in Thailand. So they should get thrown in jail. If a foreigner had done the same offence he would get at least 10 years.

Jeeez, what else should they smoke??? The stinking Thai cigarettes? No way. After pot maybe some Yaba?

guess the lesser evil   rather em smoke weed than be drunk...or yaba'd up

figured they would be moving at a crawl smoked up......faster to swim back..:wai:

Would rather be in a boat with a stoned captain than in one of these 40+ death traps with a drunk captain.

How about all these dive schools ,  they should  be careful from now on as well.

Ridiculous ! Nobody in this world should even be questioned for weed. Only old people who understand nothing about this world can talk like you do.

In the USA the boats would be seized under the Civil Forfeiture law and and be auctioned off with the proceeds going to the local police department.

Without any doubt whatsoever.

Need a smoke after reading this.
