Visa run?

Featured Replies

My company again has failed to prepare the proper documents to extend my stay for 1 year. My B visa expires tomorrow, and it's unlikely they will have what I need to extend. I will need to leave the country and return again to start over my 30 day exempt, then try again for the B Visa in BKK.(my last b visa was obtained here in Bangkok)

Anyone have any current info on my best easiest way to leave and come back? I don't really want a 10 hour bus ride either.

If I choose to fly to maybe Malaysia, how do I get my visa to enter Malaysia?

Thanks for any info.

What Passport do you hold?

Western countries do not need visa to Malaysia.

Fly to Penang and try to get a new non-B visa there.

Have you gotten a work permit yet or at least the application approval letter? If you have either one it might be best to make a trip to a nearby embassy or consulate. It is next day service after doing the application at most locations.

As said it would help if we new your nationality.

Don't I need a ton of documents to get the b visa from a Thai consulate?

Less than what immigration wants.

Here is Vientiane's requirements. http://vientiane.thaiembassy.org/upload/pdf/Visa/Non-B business.pdf

You apply the morning of one day and pick up the next afternoon. There is no same day service at any location within the region.

Where can I find bus route info to get to Vientiane?

What if I try to leave 1 day after my b visa expires? Will I only get a fine?

I'm not sure how long it will take me to get the required documents from my staff.

Does the bus leave to Vientiane in the morning or evening?

As Joe said, much easier to get a non-B.

Penang will actually give you a one year multiple non-B with eight months left on WP.

US citizen do not need visa to Malaysia.

Will the requirements be the same as the Laos consulate?

You have them in Joes link.

They will issue a single entry, Penang is only choice for multiple entry.

You will only need a single entry as long as your company does their part in 90 days.

3000 baht if booked a month in advance, not an option for you anymore.

Not the same. Penang wants a little more. This is a bit dated and the fee for the visa has gone up. Penang requiremts.pdf

The fee is 300 MYR for a single and a multiple is 750 MYR.

Most people use an agent to apply for their visa in Peang.

From what you wrote before you do not 8 months remaining on your work permit that is required to get the multiple entry visa.

I have trouble finding anything in English.  But at MoChit station, you will have many options to choose from.

You will get a 1-day overstay if you do that.  I would go to immigration and get an "extension refused" 7-day extension, instead.

Someone else please jump in and correct me if this would not work for his Non-B situation (need termination letter from work, or similar?).

They leave from MoChit at various times to Nong Khai.  I always take an overnight VIP with "chan tours" - a seat by itself (its 2-seats + isle + 1-seat) and sleep well.  They also have laptop-power (220V), movies on-demand to watch on seat-back screens, etc.  I think the price is only ~550 Baht.  You could also fly-ride via Udon, but the timing is never quite right.  The overnight bus gets me there just in time to head into Vientiane/Consulate early, and I sleep through most of the trip.
