Seven Western tourists injured as truck hits bus

Featured Replies

Police in the border town of Poipet are seeking the driver of a truck which rammed into a bus full of tourists, injuring seven of them. “The tourists had just arrived from Thailand and hired a bus belonging to the Virak Buntham Bus Company to go to Siem Reap,” said traffic police officer Ki Makara.

“They were driving on National Road 9 at around 3pm when the truck appeared from a side road and went into the back corner of the bus, causing it to overturn.” Mr Makara said seven of the 13 tourists on board were injured in Monday's accident and were recovering in hospital. It is not known how serious their injuries are.

He said the truck driver fled the scene and parked the vehicle nearby. Police found it soon after, identifying it from the damage it had suffered to its front. They have not yet found the driver but know who he is from the truck’s registration number and expect to arrest him soon. The 13 tourists came from the US, Australia, Denmark, Italy, France, the Czech Republic, England and Holland.
