BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-ocha has encouraged Thai Buddhists  to make merits  on the Visakha Bucha or Vesak Day ceremonies today.

He also advised  them to do good deeds and apply the Buddha’s teachings to their lives.

Visakha Bucha Day commemorates the birth, enlightenment, and death of the Buddha, which are all said to have happened on the same date. It is held around the month of May or Vesak, based on the lunar calendar. It is also the public holiday.

According to the National News Bureau of Thailand, Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha urged all citizens to let the good merit of the religious holiday uplift themselves, their families, their communities and the entire nation, urging them to do good deeds, make merit and take part in ceremonies for the day.

He reminded that Visakha is a very important day on the Buddhist calendar across the globe and is recognized by the United Nations.

Will he being doing so for his sins

I wish making merit didn't' mean calling in sick for work to go to the temple......

is this holiday only for the government and banks ?  I live close to an industrial park where all the factories are working...

Perhaps our leaders should allow people to decide for themselves who to pray for, and when.

I pray those mint green lotus pots go the same way as the missing plaque.

I think the poor only get days off during deadly road days.

He will have a day off and probably go and get P>>>>>.

All 3 of them?

Just what part of the concept of Separation of Powers does this man not understand.

"Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-ocha has encouraged Thai Buddhists  to make merits  on the Visakha Bucha or Vesak Day ceremonies today."

And then tomorrow they can go back to their pettiness, cheating, aggressive, and face saving behaviors.

Many million actually.

Please tell the temples to build housing for the poor, disabled, and elderly.  Please tell them to stop building buildings that stay empty and decay.  Please tell them to help feed and take care of the poor, also assist with their medical and mental health...

Please tell them to keep close track of all of the financial gifts...using them wisely to assist the needy.
