Extension of Non-B without Work Permit

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I entered Thailand w/US passport, on a Non-Immigrant B to start a teaching position in May. Unfortunately, the position was not at all as described and I would almost go as far as saying it was a scam. So, now I am here in Bangkok. Plenty of funds to support myself, I have more than enough qualifications to obtain a job, and have looked at a few so far.

Here is my question:

My visa expires in mid-July. I want to make sure the job I take is one that I want, so I am giving myself time to look. Will I be able to get an extension (30 days or..?) at the immigration office in Bangkok? Is this going to require a possible visa run?

I am very concerned with playing by the rules here, I do not want to jeopardize my visa or my plans to teach here. I am just hesitant to agree to a job too quickly after my experience upon arrival.

   Thanks for your help!

There is no 30 day extension possible for a non-b visa entry.

You can stay until the 90 day entry you got on arrival ends without a problem.

After that the best option may be to go out to get a single entry tourist visa at a nearby embassy or consulate that would allow a 60 day entry that can be extended for 30 days.

Ok, that's what I thought. Follow up question: if I decide to study Thai language instead of take a teaching position, can the non-B be changed into an ED visa? Is this something that would require leaving the country?

Non immigrant visa categories cannot be changed. You can only get a new visa.

But you might be able to apply for a 90 day extension to attend a language school of the 90 day entry from your non-b visa.
