PM asks public and press members not to publish bombing clips

BANGKOK, 11 May 0217 (NNT) - The Prime Minister has admired the rapid investigation into yesterday's bombing incident at Big C Pattani, and asked the public and journalist not to publish bombing clips for fear that they would affect people’s feelings.

The Pattani provincial police tracked down the bomber with traces from the CCTVs at various locations including a checkpoint in front of the department store.

Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha praised authorities' resourcefulness and expressed his admiration for their rapid investigation which has progressed quickly, which would eventually lead to the arrest of the culprits behind the incident.

However, the Prime Minister asked the public and journalists not to publish or forward the images and video clips of the explosion through any channels, especially online media, saying they could reiterate the violence and could also affect a great many things, including the investigation, the feelings of the local public, the economy, or confidence towards the southern border provinces.

The truth please PM???

It will effect your tourism and that means Money, Money, Money.

Or you could just ban all news of any type?

Apparently can't wait for the new media laws !

He's right about the effects. Baa Didums!and it might (just might) also get the culprits caught because someone then has to do the job that they are paid for!

Also, henceforth everybody please refer to bombings only as "sudden and loud dissipation of energy".

No we can't use the words 'sudden and loud' in case it causes a misunderstanding.

"planned dissipation of energy"

All cctv, amateur camera footage of tragic events such as bombings are shown on Thai media. So I think the PM is saying don't post these video clips or images but the Thai media is allowed to.

In my opinion if they want to stop this happening then the Thai media shouldn't use youtube to post their videos on and also should make their images on their websites copyrighted with text across the image.

This is what most media in foreign countries do, such as the BBC and CNN.

He is right in saying this only helps the bombers cause for publicity . But he has just helped them 10 times more because he is trying to stop the spread of real news. Everyone needs to know .

Tourism does not care about bombs in southern thailand.

Though it should.

Their paranoia is growing daily.....such typical actions of your regular wannabe despot....

Like many in power in Thailand, they have trouble embracing the truth.  Bad things happen everywhere and covering them up makes them worse.

think the positive stuff can stay, what there is of it. did the cops say the investigation was 99% finished? the department store should be applauded for having working CCTV cameras.

So now no one should post the truth online in case someone's feelings are hurt? This is so obviously NOT the reason since the Thai press are persistently publishing the most gory photographs of accidents, murders and deaths. No the real reason is the fear of Thailand's image and that it might put off tourists. Tourists fair game for scams, mistreatment and mafia run  transportation and treated with contempt but don't put them off because we want their money.

Sweeping something under the table has never helped to solve any problem.
So if the news are reporting truthfully and without sensation intent it is okay in my opinion.
Just waiting for the for news headline outside Thailand that titles "Terrorist attack in Thailand, dangerous to come here"...

Maybe he should just appoint himself National Publisher and Editor-in-Chief?

Of course it's OK to re-enact crimes, and publish gory pictures.

I think the PM would benefit from both a good PR Advisor and Human Rights Advisor.  People, whether they are indigenous Thai or Guests visiting the Country need to know of any potential dangers - It is their right.  Sadly, by publishing that statement, confidence in the administration of the Country will go DOWN because people will not trust what is being said.  Apart from which, it has already been all over the World News and various applications.  I do wish people would think of the consequences of what they are saying before making public announcements.

I didn't even read about it and i have forgotten it already.

why not publish????? It's daily Thai life. Because of the inability of this government to come to an agreement with the Muslim part of Thailand.

To send more soldiers is not any solution but negotiations are.

When these soldiers will learn? Probably never. Otherwise they would not become soldiers but democratic elected politicians

Too late, it's already in the international press.

Wow talk about smothering the media.  Is anything allowed to be reported on or discussed in Thailand apart from how wonderful Uncle Too is?  Talk about squashing and suffercating your people.  This is really going to give the international media more to speak of, Thai media completely ruled by one man for his own personal use.

Rapid expansion of hot air. Similar to when the PM opens his mouth

An off-topic post has been removed.   Please don't post in all caps.

So the rest of the world cannot see what's going on?
