BURI RAM: -- Two young girls drowned in a temple pond in Buri Ram’s Nong Hong district on Monday afternoon, police said.

The parents of the girls, who were cousins, became alarmed when the girls had not returned home on Monday evening.

They remembered thegirls liked to play near the pond and found their bicycles and sandals near it.

Rescuers spent about two hours searching the pond and found the bodies at the bottom of the pond.

The girls were identified as Apinya Thongngern, 6, and Pitthaya Wichaisi, 7.

A terrible tragedy.

Surely regularly playing near such a body of water, at such a young age, should have been supervised ?

R.I.P. young ones.

A terrible accident, Thai people seem to be oblivious of danger to children,  They let them wander around without a care in the world.

Another preventable drowning(s) from the lack of not knowing how to swim. For crying out loud don't let your kids near water if they can't swim. And if the parents can't swim how the heck are you going to rescue them!

Lax parents exist all over the world man.

Go into any major western city centre.

Your inference that all thai parents are uncaring/ slack etc is untrue, unproven and very very offensive.

However such baseless sentiments are not rare on here.

Horrendous acts of paedophilia are a daily occurrence in the west. Are all westerners paedophiles? Of course they arent.
