Can i get a 1-month extension if i have an O visa (volunteering)

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm wondering if I can get a one-month extension for my O visa (volunteering)?

I prefer to avoid the expenses of having to fly abroad just to get a 30 day visa exemption.

There is no 30 day extension possible for a non immigrant visa.

You could get a 7 days to leave the country by applying for an extension, paying 1900 and then the application would be denied.

No.

You don't need to fly. There are plenty of land crossings you can use to get a 30 day visa exempt entry. That is assuming you haven't used your two entries allowed this year.

Ohhh which land crossings? If it's just land crossing, don't I only get a 15-day visa exempt entry?

The 15 day entry rule was rescinded when the 2 visa exempt entries per calendar year at land border crossings rule went into effect on January 1st of this year.

You can get a one year extension with your work permit as a volunteer.

You do have a work permit, volunteer work requires a work permit.

Hi,

I'm fine with getting a 7-day extension. My visa's expiring on the 7th and I have a flight out of Thailand on the 12th. Are all applications for extension denied?

Even if I show that I have a flight ticket on the 12th already?

They are denied since there is no extension that you can qualify for since you would not have the supporting documents to qualify for them. All extensions of a non immigrant visa entry are for a specific purpose.

It is denied and you granted 7 days to leave the country.

Okay understood.

1) This means that for the sake of not being illegal in Thailand between 7th (when my visa expires) and 12 (when my flight out of Thailand is schedule), applying for an extension would make more sense than doing a single-day border run right?

2) "It is denied and you granted 7 days to leave the country" - 7 days from the expiration of my visa, right? Not from the date I applied for

extension?

3) Will the denial of my application for extension have a negative impact in my next application for O visa (volunteer)? (Something in the lines of me being seen negatively because of overstaying?) I just want to avoid any trouble that can affect my O visa application.

1. Yes

2. From the date your current entry ends.

3. It will have no effect.

2. They will almost certainly give you the 7 days from the end of your current stay, but if they ask why you need extra time, and you show the your flight out on the 12th, they might only give you until the 12th.

Special thanks to @elviajero and @ubonjoe for the tips. By the way, are they very particular about the "reason of extension"? Can I just say that my flight out is scheduled on the 12th? Or do i have to make something up?

The reason for the extension is not important. Just complete the application form, pay the 1900 baht fee and you will get the 7 days.

They will ask you why you need more time. No need to make anything up, saying your flight isn't until the 12th will be fine.
