Five Thais and four Malaysians were arrested at a golf club in Myawaddy district of Myanmar after they entered the country illegally.

Police there said that the group had not completed immigration formalities and had in fact entered across the river.

The men and women - aged between 27 and 63 - claimed they had gone to Myanmar to look into buying cows to bring back to Thailand.

Their passports were in order though they had no stamps showing entry to Myanmar.

Tak immigration and Mae Sot police on the Thai side are helping in the investigation to get to the bottom of what the group were up to.
