BANGKOK: -- The National Legislative Assembly’s law-vetting committee has completed its scrutiny of the draft national reform bill as required under the Constitution and will wrap its work before forwarding the bill to the NLA for the second and third readings.

The panel plans to submit the draft bill to the NLA by early next month, and expects the law to be promulgated by August, committee spokesperson Chalermchai Boonyaleephan said on Monday.

The draft bill principally addresses the matter of authority as well as the framework for the national reforms to be accomplished within five years, Chalermchai said.

Under the bill, a new national reform committee would be set up within 15 days of the law’s promulgation, and must convene within 90 days in order to finish crafting the national reform plans. Within six months, public hearings must be held before the plans are implemented, he said, commenting on key content in the draft legislation.

And not a single representative of the Thai electorate anywhere in this entire process.
