11 million registered low income earners to be verified

BANGKOK: -- The Government will double check the list of 11 million people who have registered for state welfare to make sure they are really low income earners.

This was revealed by Mr Krisada Chinavicharana, director of the Fiscal Police Office (FPO) yesterday.

He said now the Ministry of Finance has forwarded names of 11 million low-income earners to relevant government agencies and state banks for verification of their qualifications.

He said a total of 14 million people have registered themselves with the government as low-income earners.

However only a list of 11 million people has been forwarded to the Department of Provincial Administration, Department of Lands, Revenue Department’s and the Bank of Thailand for verification.

The remaining number is on the process.

the army is going to start paying 15% of thailands population welfare?  seems hard to believe.

11 million plus count the kids and the real number is 25-30 million. A lot of poor chaps here in Isaan as they were only allowed to have one harvest last year.

Stop spending in Bangkok and spread it around the country. Issan has 6% of GDP spent on it, but also carries a huge farming population.

You can't fault them on this one. Certainly the people at the top do their best to make sure they are really low income earners. Their record is pretty stellar in this regard.

Maybe they made a broad pre selection ? No idea just guessing here.

I agree, and how do they know what the farmers earn in the first place, and how many there are. It makes me wonder about how the unemployment figures are produced. Farmers in Isaan do not provide much paperwork so who knows who is employed or not and how many people each farm is actually supporting. Remember too, the Isaan people also support the older family members, (not to say other parts of the country don't) grandparents for instance. How the government produces these figures is interesting to say the least.

saw crowds outside the banks waiting to register for the handouts a few weeks ago, some were holding very expensive phones and had arrived in cars! Impossible to vet 11 mill, they will do spot checks. I think it was if income less than 100k a year, very hard to believe there are 14 mill Thais on less than that.

Typically self-employed workers (ie., farmers, street vendors, lottery vendors, motorcycle taxi drivers) are employed even when not working. Bloomberg said the low unemployment rate in Thailand was due to structural problems rather than differences in defining the term ‘unemployment’. http://www.pattayamail.com/thailandnews/bloomberg-thailand-has-one-of-the-lowest-unemployment-rates-45459

That doesn't explain to me where the numbers come from.

I'm not sure your percentage is correct, regardless, the plan is to spend more on the provinces. But perhaps one of the reasons why spending has been so much lower is that the economy in the NE is only one fifth of that in Bangkok: http://www.reuters.com/article/thailand-budget-idUSL4N1FH22M

As they don't have interconnected computer network systems, how long will this take, and how sound will the results be?
