June 1, 20179 yr Travelling on the train to Chiang Mai I saw a great deal of construction beside the line north of Bang Sue station. As it was dark I couldn't see much other than the pillars. Is this an elevated main line railway an elevated road an extension of the skytrain? I tried google, but couldn't find the answer. Thanks
June 1, 20179 yr The huge structure is Bang Sue Grand station, to be the main rail hub once it's finished, along with new maintenance depots for the Red Line and SRT long distance trains. Allegedly opeing in 2020 (ish). Once you actually get towards the north it's the Red Line all the way to Rangsit. "I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

Indeed, and whilst many have been removed and are in storage (they still belong to the holding company if they want to collect them) many are still in place. We will have to remove them for the ARL extension when (if) it ever gets built. "I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"
June 1, 20179 yr You can see where the SRT Dark Red Line runs on the future network map on page 26 on this thread. This commuter/suburban line will eventually be over 90kms long once completed! (26km under construction + 8.5km north ext + 59km south extension to Mahachai)
June 3, 20179 yr Author Thanks all. I thought the pillars looked too big for a elevated road. Rail makes sense.

It will have 4 tracks, two for commuter services and all the long distance and freight will be up there too on the other two tracks, we should see the last of those annoying level crossings.
