Place to put a tent up overnight
If you break out of the Pattaya bubble there are camping areas all over the country. Remember how hot it is in March though. There was a great camping area down near Chumpon. It's a conservation area set up beside the ocean by the old king. The Thais camped there were having a great time when I rode through last year. Be sure you've got a comfortable mat underneath you or it's going to be a long night. A sheet will provide enough warmth. I've spent a lot of time in tents, much of which was in winter conditions at altitude. Never once had a good night's sleep, but sometimes a tent is the only way to achieve your goal. Have you considered popping down to New Zealand to camp? The South Island looks like a great place and you don't have to worry about bears or moose. -

Illegal Tour Guides Nabbed at Temple of Emerald Buddha as Thai Police Clamp Down
Emerald Buddha’s sacred sanctuary in Bangkok turned into a site of controversy yesterday, as Thai Tourist Police arrested two Chinese nationals working unlawfully as tour guides. The two women, identified as 42-year-old Ji Xianlan and 32-year-old Na Xulan, were caught assisting tourists outside Wat Phra Kaew, or the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, flagrantly flaunting Thailand's stringent tourism regulations. Believed to be working under a 'Sitting Guide' from a travel agency, the women were detained whilst escorting travellers within the temple's premises. The 'Sitting Guide' system, though a legal position in Thailand, often exploits linguistic loopholes for illegal benefits. State-licensed tour guides hire foreign nationals to help tourists who struggle with the Thai language—a practice prohibited by law. Although the two Chinese women found themselves at the mercy of the law, the case of the sitting guide was conspicuously absent from the police report released on Channel 3. Charged under Section 86 of the Tourist Business and Guide Act, Ji Xianlan and Na Xulan face potential sentences of up to one year in prison, fines reaching up to 100,000 Thai baht, or even both. The indefatigable police pursuit reflects a concerted drive to root out all exploitative activities sullying Thailand’s lauded travel industry's appearance. Authorities have shifted their policing focus to monitoring the bustling tourist hubs in the capital city, resulting in the exposure of several unauthorised foreign guides. This wave of law enforcement has ensnared several illegal tour operators. Just in September, Thai police detained an Indonesian guide illegally offering travel packages to 133 compatriots. As the country battles the taint on its tourism industry, stricter scrutiny and enforcement actions are anticipated to be the new order of the day. File photo for reference only -- 2024-11-14 -

Krungsri Interest Rates
Oh, please pay attention. It isn't 2.2% - it's gone down to 2.0%. And as for S&P 500 funds, the S&P is trading at a P/E ratio of 27 suggesting it's seriously overpriced, and it is heavily invested in a very narrow range of tech companies. NVIDIA 7.2%, Apple 6.7%, Microsoft 6.2% are the top three holdings. NVIDIA's P/E ratio is 68.6, Apple's 36.8, and Microsoft 34.7. The level of growth implied by these figures is almost certainly unobtainable. And finally there's the foreign exchange risk. So, whilst the S&P has done very well over the last few years, there's no reason to assume that that level of performance will continue, and plenty of reasons to assume it won't. -

Thai Tax Returns for Foreigners
There are two aspects here. 1. There is Thai RD Order 161 together with Thai RD Instruction 162. Together this states any assessable foreign income (from tax year 2024 or later tax year) brought into Thailand commencing 1-Jan-2024 (and later), is potentially subject to Thai tax. Nominally the understanding is that foreign income/savings in place BEFORE 1-Jan-2024, that is brought into Thailand is not affected/nor planned to be taxed. These two Thai RD documents are in place now. < and for others reading this - if my understanding is wrong there please correct me > . 2. The Thai RD management are pushing to also tax foreign assessable income even if NOT bought into Thailand. However that has not happened yet.
