The coral reef at Ran Dok Mai island off Koh Si Chang has sustained extensive damage caused by a freighter which ran aground and smashed into the reef on May 28.

 

About 20 divers and officials of the marine resources conservation centre in Chon Buri conducted an inspection of the coral reef after the Panama-registered freighter, Global Standard, smashed into the reef at the northern part of Ran Dokmai island.

 

The damage area was estimated at 2,866 square metres, stretching 84 metres long and 35.8 metres wide.

i want all concerned about this to consider what happened when they dredged pattaya bay for sand to use in the ''beach rejuvenation project soi 1''they must have done some serious corral damage as large pieces are still washing up a year after they decided to scrap the project.''i will post some pictures soon...

Photos 2,3,4...are photos of a Coral Dredge , or they are used for offloading small cargo ships with bulk Cargo....

Loading/off loading onto barges....

 

Using the shelter of the islands in shallow water avoiding harbour charges,  just think how big their anchors are and if they do not drop on corral the sure can drag through it...
