BANGKOK: -- The Royal Thai Police on Monday ordered an investigation into controversial photos and video clips of Chiang Rai police with suspected female killers who allegedly dismembered the victim’s body in Khon Kaen province and surrendered at the weekend.

In making the announcement, police spokesman Pol General Detnarong Suthicharnpanya referred to the case of Priyanuch Nonwangchai, Kawita Rachada and Apiwan Satayabundit, who were issued arrest warrants for allegedly murdering karaoke singer Warisara Klinjui last month.

They escaped to Myanmar through Chiang Rai’s Mae Sai district on May 25 after allegedly killing Warisara, reportedly out of a personal grudge over drug case and cut up her body.

All three surrendered to Myanmar police on Saturday night and were then handed over to immigration police in Chiang Rai on Sunday.

Photos and video clips showed police and suspects in an apparently relaxed mood while the three were in custody in Chiang Rai. One photo showed Priyanuch with white powder on her face smiling and taking picture with police, who also smiled to the camera. Another photo showed showed Kawita and Apiwan busily doing their makeup.

Television footage aired nationwide on Sunday showed one of the suspects about to open a bottle of water before a police officer took it and opened it for her.

The photos and clips were leaked on social media, drawing criticism that police seemed eager to please suspects who had been charged with such a gruesome murder.

The three were also not handcuffed when handed over from Myanmar authorities to Thai police, which was claimed to be against the rules. However police handcuffed the suspects when they took them for a reenactment in Khon Kaen on Monday.

Detnarong said the Immigration Police Bureau had been ordered to set up a fact-finding committee to look into the case.

“At this stage, I believe the actions may be a police strategy to make the suspects relax so that they would reveal some information,” he said.

He implied that as the results of the police approach, the suspects told them the name of another male suspect who joined in the murder.

Five suspects are now under police custody, including Wasin Namprom and Jidarat Promkhun. Wasin name Priyanuch as the killer and the one who mutilated the victim, insisting he was only a driver, while Jidarat claimed she had been tasked with selling Warisara’s belongings.

However Priyanuch told police on Sunday that Wasin was involved in the murder. The five have been charged with murder, hiding a body and robbery.

The spokesman called for the public to have confidence that the police would neither discriminate against nor favour any suspect.

Just dreadful.. The obviously innocent B2 were even reported to have been shackled hand and foot while in their cells during the trial..

The obvious deviation away from any uniform standards typifies the rogue nature of the RTP.

Random people are routinely subjected to forced urine tests in public places in an attempt to intimidate whereas cold blooded killers fresh from the lam are well treated and allowed to hide their faces.

An appallingly $#it show as per ?

Allowed to apply makeup, given sunglasses, basball caps, masks, treated like rock stars all the while in custody of the Thai Police. What an <deleted> disgrace. The Thai Police are a joke, instead of treating these pieces of excrement as they deserved to be treated given the nature of their crime, the Thai Police see it as an opportunity for a photo op. Thailand is a pathetic excuse for a country and almost on a daily basis we are treated to examples to back up that claim.

Should we toss the Redbull kid into this investigation as well or is there too much hidden money being passed around to come to any conclusion......

No way a comedian could come up with this kind of material.... speaking of that do they have a "Late night at the improv" here in Thailand?

Yep, may as well. Some people seem to need to do it even when it's completely irrelevant. Oops- I see what you did there!

True. But you don't really show this on camera normally. Bunch of amateurs these coppers, possibly being infatuated with these three whores.

Nah, this is all about status and money. Who did they kill? Who did they upset? Nobody of status. No community particularly upset. Police not bothered particularly if the suspects were able to pay a few hundred baht for better treatment. Royal Thai Police is primarily a revenue-raising organisation provided no threat is apparent to the current social hierarchy.

Friendly photos with Khon Kaen murder suspects spur Chiang Rai police ban
By THE NATION

CHIANG RAI: -- THE ROYAL Thai Police yesterday told personnel not to take photos or video clips with suspects, amid criticism over officers’ seemingly casual treatment of three female murder suspects in Chiang Rai province.

The order came after controversial images of police officers and suspects in the gruesome killing of karaoke singer Warisara Klinjui seemingly in a relaxed mood were leaked onto social media.

Police adviser Kavee Supanun said police officers must be aware that they had to be neutral and should not tarnish the force’s image.

Meanwhile, an investigation was ordered into the photos and video clips featuring the three suspects, who surrendered at the weekend.

In announcing the probe, police spokesman Pol General Detnarong Suthicharnpanya referred to the case of Priyanuch Nonwangchai, Kawita Rachada and Apiwan Satayabundit, who were arrested on warrants for allegedly murdering Warisara in Khon Kaen and cutting up her body last month.

They escaped to Myanmar through Chiang Rai’s Mae Sai district on May 25 after allegedly killing Warisara, reportedly out of a personal grudge over a drug case, and dismembering her body. All three surrendered to Myanmar police on Saturday night and were then handed over to immigration police in Chiang Rai on Sunday.

One of the controversial photos showed Priyanuch with white powder on her face smiling and taking a picture with police, who also smiled for the camera. Another photo showed Kawita and Apiwan busily doing their makeup.

Television footage aired nationwide on Sunday showed one of the suspects about to open a bottle of water before a police officer took it and opened it for her. The photos and clips were leaked on social media, drawing criticism that police seemed eager to please suspects who had been charged with such a grisly murder.

Netizens also cricised the suspects for failing to show real remorse for the murder.

The three were also apparently not handcuffed when handed over by Myanmar authorities to Thai police, which was claimed to be against the rules. However, police handcuffed the suspects when they took them for a re-enactment in Khon Kaen yesterday.

Detnarong said the Immigration Police Bureau had been ordered to set up a fact-finding committee to look into the case.

“At this stage, I believe the actions may be a police strategy to make the suspects relax so that they will reveal some information,” he said.

He implied that the suspects had told police the name of another male suspect who had participated in the murder as a result of the relaxed treatment.

Five suspects are now in police custody, including Wasin Namprom and Jidarat Promkhun. Wasin named Priyanuch as the killer, insisting he was only a driver, while Jidarat claimed she had been tasked with selling Warisara’s belongings.

However, Priyanuch told police on Sunday that Wasin had been involved in the murder. The five have been charged with murder, hiding a body and robbery.

The spokesman asked for the public to be confident that the police would not discriminate against or favour any suspect.

Meanwhile, a woman who identified herself on Facebook as a lawyer with the name of Zara Wf Gwang wrote that the suspects’ rights were protected by law, including the provision of food, medicine and medical care regardless of the charges they were facing.

She said the treatment given to the three suspects was not as good as many had claimed from what she had seen.

Regarding the handcuffs, she wrote that the circumstances of a suspect’s detention should depend on the situation, adding that suspects would be handcuffed when brought to court and to prison. However, she said she did not feel any sympathy for the suspects.

In the U.K. The Police and Criminal Evidence Act was brought in in1984 to regulate suspects' treatment as unfairness and inconsistency was creeping in.

But they still lock up detained persons, especially those accused of disgusting crimes like this. Here the children in uniform are still impressed by notoriety, star struck.
