Taxi fare Luang Prabang to the city?

Featured Replies

Does anyone know the taxi fare from the LPB airport  to the city?   I recall it is a short ride.

It is a short ride, but if memory serves, you're not going to get away with less than $6 USD, or maybe it's $8?

I just did this... and I can't remember.  But for some reason, about 50000 kip sticks in my mind?

Taxis in Laos are bigest rip-off I ever saw!!!

Common practice - For example if you're going in Savannakhet from border to thai embassy, tuk-tuk will ask for 200 baht. But they will charge it per passanger! Alone 200 Baht, next time with wife 400 Baht. <deleted>?! Am I renting tuk-tuk or buying ticket for a bus?

My last straw was a trip in Vientanie. Never forget. Never again.

I found a taxi, we made a deal for about 500 Baht from border to bus station, where I wanted to continue to Vang Vieng.

1]  he found also another client at the moment which wanted to go to the city, so he charged him 500 baht too, while taking us together

2] he told that customer to get out of the taxi at suburb of the city, since his hotel is right behind the corner, but I knew road where hotel is, it wasn't even close (+-10 Km), hotel was in center of the city, driver didn't want to go there, he throw him out at suburb, customer believed him, so he went out

3] he stopped at bus station #1, which doesn't have bus to Vang Vieng, but he convinced me, that it has (real reasson was, that this bus station was closer, he didn't want to go too far), so I end up at wrong bus station and I missed last bus to Vang Vieng, end up sleeping there

4] he had balls to ask for additional 300 Baht, due to road jams - at that point i was ready to speak with police (i wonder how it would go for me, since I can't imagine at what state is Laos police) - but my wife throw him extra 200 Baht and dragged me away from him

True story.

At that day I promised myself, that I will never put my foot on Laos land without my own way of transport. I'm going to Laos for a visa in a 20 days. I already have all the paperwork to go there with my own bike.

Good luck with Laos taxis.
