My Work Permit Expires 3 months before my Visa. Can I stay until my visa expires?

Featured Replies

Hi, my work permit expires in October, but my 1 year Non- O multiple re-entry visa expires in January. What happens when my work permit expires? Can I stay until the visa expires? I just need to know how much time I have to take the next steps. I know I can't work after the work permit expires but do I need to leave the country when the work permit expires?

Thank you!

If you have a non-immigrant B visa obtained from a consulate abroad and leave the country every 90-days it will be valid.
If you have one year extension of stay from immigration and do 90-day reporting your extension will be void the same day you stop working.

It seems as though you have an extension of stay on the basis of working from an immigration office in Thailand. The extension ceases to be valid as soon as your employment ceases. If I have misunderstood, and you have a multiple entry Non B visa issued at a consulate outside Thailand, this remains valid until its expiry.

Usually, if on the extension, your best move is to get a letter from your employer that confirms the date on which your employment will cease. Furnished with this, you can visit immigration and they will post date the cancellation of your extension accordingly. You can then make appropriate plans.
