Should UK temporally rejoin EFTA

Featured Replies

BRITAIN will put itself in a stronger position to negotiate the best possible Brexit deal and seize new economic opportunities across the globe if it [again] joins the European Free Trade Association (Efta), the trading alliance’s top judge has said.

Since the UK election Remain-backing political opponents have lined up to demand that May softens her position ahead of the talks, with most of the calls focussing on keeping Britain inside the Single Market.

All of the current models of Single Market membership, including the European Economic Area (EEA) membership accepted by the likes of Norway, involve accepting the four fundamental freedoms including free movement of people.

But President Baudenbacher expressed optimism that Britain within Efta could negotiate a better deal on immigration controls with Brussels, saying eurocrats had “zero interest in snubbing” such an influential country as the UK.

It was in The Daily Express, but it is worth reading whichever side you are on.
