Hello

I am a teacher here from the UK, with a Non B visa with the year extension. My husband came with me on a Non O visa and also has the year extension (my husband is also from the UK).

My my husband has now found work and needs to convert the Non O visa into a Non B visa and apply for a work permit. The question is, can he do this all in Thailand or will he have to go to Penang?

If if anyone has experience in doing this, advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same issue like your husband. How did he do? Changed his non - o to a non-b he? Where did he change it?

my problem is exactly the same with your husband. I found a teaching job, but the school told me to cancel my non-o visa and go back to my country for applying a non-b visa.

Because my children are very young and my husband doesn't work in Bangkok, I can't leave the kids totally to the nanny, plus the school starts in August and the time is very tight for me.

If your husband got solutions, please let me know as soon as possible. Thanks a lot!

I would check with your labor office - ask them to issue you the work-permit on your non-o.  The reason can be that you will be staying with your husband as long as he has work here, so you wish your 'permission-of-stay' to be based on his Non-B.

Each labor-office has a degree of autonomy, so it will be their discretion whether to issue a WP.  I have heard of one case where a person received a WP based on a retirement-based Non-O, which should (in theory) not ever be allowed.

Some areas have a stamp that says 'employment not allowed' some don't so perhaps the person was in one of the non stamp areas.

I will go to ask my employer and double check what they do. But I am still lost why someone can get the wp and me can't. Or the school I will work for is not clear about the issue, maybe.

Do you know this for a fact?

Has a WP application for you been refused by the Labour office?

I haven't gone to apply for the work permit yet.

My employer which is an international school told me that I need to cancel my non-o (which is actually is extension of stay now), the I go back to china and apply the non-b, the they will take care of the work permit when I get the Non-b.

Personally, I want to keep my non-o as long as possible. Who knows what will happen with the job. If I get the non-b, when I finish the contract, that means non-b will be valid and I can't stay like now with the non-o.

hope I explained it well and it is understandable.
