Although when IM were playing  fast aggressive short songs, (in the late 70"s ?)

Punk at the time was quite melodic

It was only in the early 80's that some punk bands went hardcore, thrash music

I was at school on London at the time and there was a clear distinction between punks and heavy metalers (and Mod, new Romantics etc)

    The Jam were punk/Mod .

Motorhead were Metal/punkish

Iron Maiden stayed in the HM camp, with no cross over

you never said you age and what you posted above is <deleted>, you don't have a clue I'm going block you. you are talking about 80's there weren't any romantics in the 70's. if you don't know don't troll. you are the one looking out of place in the musical discussion on here. you were never anywhere near 70's punk.

That is why I said "in the early 80's"

Although The New romantic movement did begin in 1979 , with your very own Steve Strange and Visage and gained popularity a few years later with Spandau and Duran .

So the New Romantic movement began in 1979, which, is part of the 1970's

giving you guys one of my top 5 performances, this was the last time crowded house played live (yes some small things long after) and I frequently play this it's one of my favourite videos. and for you DL as you seem to make my music choices seem as if I pick them for the topic of the forum but apart from a few they have been picked just for the music.

watch the whole concert, Sidney Opera house their last concert - if time travel is invented in my lifetime I will be there ......

Free Alive !, got to agree with you there , great album.
While we're on the subject, The Who - Live at Leeds and Deep Purple - Made in Japan take some beating IMO.

Can't beat a bit of healthy reminiscing !!
The 70's for me, from age 9 to 18 , best years of our lives emoji4.png

Coverdale took my sister out when he was in the local band before he got the audition for Purple. She has never been the same since...

(I have another story too, but I'll have to check some details first.)

On the punk thing, it was exciting at the time, and not all were like The Pistols with little musical ability. I saw them the first gig they did after the Bill Grundy interview. (Leeds Town Hall? Not sure.)

Also went to the Marquee quite a bit when I moved to London in late '78.

Some really interesting memories gentlemen.

Life is good.

Sometimes.

Like tonight.

Had sex and a few drinks, listen to Pink Floyd, tomorrow Hawkwind, rain stopped.

I forget how many times I saw Hawkwind, I was a big fan.

Glad you are too. Pink Fairy's I was back stage in '73.

I saw The Who the same year.

Curved Air I saw several times too.

Did you ever see Van der Graaf Generator?

But I was always 'just a drummer'...

No drum collection in my lock-up I'm afraid DL.

Hi  old beachy dude,

have to agree in your taste of music, but I would go for Animals as their best creation but no issues as long as you are a floydian!

relative you would rather not have? No, I don't but many of my relatives do oddly enough................

just cannot work that one out

I am a Floyd fan, and I still enjoy Ummagumma along with DSOTM.

I didn't like The Wall though.

If you need to chill out try this:

Not far from you, just up the road near Cambridge.

I stopped listening to the radio in 1978.

From Merseybeat to psychedelic, hard rock, punk and new wave, music was my life...

Walking in the world's mountains with my tent and the bare essentials, such as a cassette player, and kilos of cassettes and batteries. Food? Too heavy to carry.

Pre 1978 music still is the number one in my life, and I have added classical and 30s.

Everything that happened later, I label as Cabaret. That includes the newer Deep Purple or ACDC, and especially that senile Ozzy from the BBC soap. Frightening how a rocker that I saw in 1970 could fall so low.

Now listening to Animals.

Amazing what people like us  do to forget / cope with the nonsense of the world in general, and Thailand in particular.

I think I will have a papaya for breakfast, from our garden though.

Next a banana milk shake, banana from euh yes the same garden, and milk from a cow that will remind me of Atom Heart Mother.

Awesome old hippy dude, it's raining here ( no surprises there) the name of that cow was?

Actually it was Gillan/Glover ! so must have been 73' or maybe earlier, will have to ask my brother, although like me he probably has vague recollections about that era ( he would have been around 17/18 at the time ).

I must admit to being sorely disappointed when Gillan and Glover left and found it hard to adapt to Coverdale/Hughes but realised later that they were more than worthy replacements.

Have you heard Glenn's new album , Resonate ?

Totally agree and Dave Gilmour's 1st solo album from this time is his best and you can obviously hear the similarities to Animals. I've got goosebumps just thinking about the harmonised guitar solo from Dogs.

3:42 if you just want to jump to the 1st time

Oh sand dude old chum,

As a musician, you would appreciate both the taxing strumming of the acoustic as well as the "I don't want the likes of the dark lord playing this" philosophy of His Excellency The Right Honourable and Most Awesome guitarist ever to live, David G's retuned guitar and complicated chord sequence on this masterpiece. To my eternal shame I will throw myself to the wolves here by admitting the Dmin first chord followed by the B flat min second , I can handle but the Adim4 has defeated me before returning to Bflat min7 (based on memory).  So much so that with my weakened wrists ( from too much time at sea) and my unruly and indisciplined collection of ten "Issan sausages" stuck on each of my paws, I defer to the bass on this song when crucifying it in my own manner.

On an historic note Gilly was passed at Waters because waters insisted they were remunerated per song on the album and would not let Gilly publish the "you got to be crazy" in two parts ( which it so obviously was created to be) hence the meandering link between the t who parts. Waters, on the other hand somewhat arrogantly put in Pigs on the Wing as opening and closing songs ( fundamentally the same songs) as well as the three different ones ( pigs that is)

hope you and the team team have an awesome day ahead.

cheers

TDL

Your malady symptoms could result from a few things. I do suggest you consider the type of mattress, and how old it is before you spend loads on medical bills though.

Best wishes on that.

Ody remains in my thoughts as I'm sure he does with all of us.

Well sand dude old friend, whilst you plead innocent of being gifted with the ability to pick both awesome tunes who carry appropriate titles, the jury is out.  You either have a hidden skill set that allows you to choose these pieces of gold without knowing or you are one who understates his amazing ability.

Either way, DONT STOP!

Speaking for myself but confident most of our brothers ( sisters and transgenders as we have now to be inclusive) in this thread agree, this new direction is bringing memories back from the time when dinosaurs roamed the earth ( well maybe not) the sun always shone on us and our chosen partners at the time were almost understandable.

Oh oh happy days!

I cannot believe that sandrabbit blocked me for the reason that we had a slight disagreement about  genre of a band .

Is that the most puerile reason ever that anyones ever blocked anyone else on TV ?

The last time I saw Sabbath was in Cardiff a few months before I moved to Thailand, Dio was singing and it was billed as Heaven & Hell tour 2. I saw them on tour 1. I walked out of the concert, the band wasn't loud enough plus boring - you should not be able to talk during a rock concert. I've worked in industry my whole life and protected my ears but that was disgusting. H&H 1 was at Sofia Gardens in Cardiff and the police & fire service decided there were too many people who had all genuine tickets to stop everyone going in. Sabbath played 2 concerts, i was in the 2nd one but nearly got arrested before the first for falling, drunk. when the crowd tried to get through the doors. H&H 1 was awesome.

Reminds me of my first concert which was Status Quo. Had to beg my parents to let me purchase and don the statutory denims ( which I later sold in communist Russia for £50) and then whilst trying far too hard to appear cool and part of the long haired bunch of attendees in the pub before the concert ( again Hammersmith odeon as was) managed to barf up the best part of my fourth pint right over some of the cool guys.

I was saved by the bell as the doors opened right about then.

A most humiliating experience that i hat I have carried with me for XXX years and never spoken to anyone about. Though in my defence I was only about 13 at the time.

I hope that the recipient of my stomach contents on that momentous evening evening is not one of you fine people.....

The story goes that Storm Hipgnosis was asked for something simple for the cover and , on a whim, drove out to a field and photographed several cows.
The farmer verified the cows name.

Apparently the album name came from a newspaper headline ( Evening Standard ) about a woman who had a nuclear powered pacemaker ( actually an electric stint )fitted !!

Now there is a true officionado of the Floyd.

Awesome my my friend just f...ing awesome.

BTW we are the same age +/- 1 year.

Growing up in Northamptonshire and having a totally laid back "road plod" and an escort 1600 (actually 1710 with gas flowed head, high lift cam and a few extra tweaks under the bonnet) JPS special  at my command, I often took the lady of the time to the River cam to go punting with the intent of more darker activities for later in the day. En Route we would pass grantchester and I nearly always had that playing from my jury rigged cassette player as I tried to impress the lady of the day with my abundant knowledge of all things Floyd.

Varying success levels were achieved over the few years of such activities.

I recall, but might be wrong, that every summer, back then, had a blazing sun and clear blue cloudless skies. Our bodies were trim and bums tight ( sorry buttocks) our hair long ( well as long as our parents from a vastly different age would allow) and our expectations high.

Were we wrong to be so innocent and full of dreams?

There is no puerile behaviour here maximal old chum, it may be that you are not fully with the programme here or even ( much to our possible envy) a tad too young.

I can  assure you that from my experience with the brothers on this thread, ( my thread bros) there is not absolutely zero negativity but there is also zero tolerance for elves, trolls and the likes (gollum is accepted though) .

My advice, shrug it off and put it down to the great learning experience we all continue to enjoy. Old Sandy dude is a good chap, on that I lay my reputation as an evil and dark s.o.b.
