Marrying a divorced Thai

Featured Replies

My Thai girlfriend and I (Canadian) are planning to get married in Thailand. My mother is visiting from Canada and would like to see us get married while she is here. I'm wondering if we will have enough time to get married before she leaves Thursday, July 13.

My girlfriend was previously married in Udon Thani about 10 years ago. She received her divorce certificate in Canada on February 2, 2016. The divorce certificate has already been certified by the Canadian embassy, translated, and stamped by the ministry of foreign affairs. My marriage affidavit stating that I'm free to marry has also been translated and stamped by the ministry of foreign affairs.

My girlfriends previous marriage was performed at the district office in Udon Thani. Do we need to return there to present the divorce certificate? It would be much easier if we could do everything at the district office in Chiang Mai.

Thanks

No you do not need to return to the same district but do check with your intended Amphur office that they do not require anything else. If her divorce cert has been accepted and stamped by the MFA you're pretty much good to go.

That's great news, we'll head to the district office on Monday to check. Thanks

Sorry if you go to the district office on Monday you may be the only person there as its a public holiday and the offices will be closed.
