Question for traveling underage to thailand

Featured Replies

Hey,

i wanted to ask some questions

first off, im 17 years old and from Germany.

1. what kind of documents do I need if I want to go underage to thailand without any parents and/or other adults/people? Is it allowed? I would stay at the family of my girlfriend.

2. Should I get a visa in germany or do I definetly get a 30 days arrival visa?

3. For the arrival visa, if I have the electronically booking code of my back flight , is that enogh? Or do I need a paper flight ticket?

1. You will need consent from your parents. A notarized consent letter from them together with a copy of your birth certificate should be enough.

2. If you plan on staying longer than the 30 days a visa exempt entry would allow then you should get a single entry tourist that will allow a 60 day entry.

3.  You should have a copy of your e-ticket to prove your return flight.

When my now 19 year old daughter was flying to visit her grandparents in Thailand,   unaccompanied at age 14 onwards,  she was not allowed to leave immigration on a number of occasions unless she was met by one of the Thai family.  She was travelling on a UK passport and a visa excempt entry.  At 17 you may not have this issue,  but ensure you have the papers mentioned in  the post above

Incorrect information

My son visited me 5 years ago at age 15, for a 30 day visit using a visa exempt entry.  Although not essential at his age (under 14 assistance would have been mandatory), the airline (EVA) met him from his Mum at departures, and escorted him through both immigrations, and then kept an eye on him on arrival to make sure he was happy he'd found me, although there was no formal handover at either end, and no additional paperwork required.
