BANGKOK: -- Those animals depicted on tickets for Sunday’s (July 16) state lottery are noble, pure-blooded tapirs, not a “hybrid” as stated, a bemused veterinarian has pointed out.

Kaset Sudecha, who works in the pet clinic at Kasetsart University’s Animal Hospital, said tapirs are the result of 20 million years of evolution and are anything but a hybrid.

But the tickets issued by the Government Lottery Office identify the pair depicted as a “hybrid”.

Kaset speculated that the ticket designer might have been confused by the animal’s Thai name – som set – which translates literally as “cross-bred”.

Given the mistakes the current government makes on a daily basis,  this might be forgiven.

They may want to mention that they are endangered like most wild animals it would seem.
