Fake police number plates targeted

Featured Replies

The National Police plans to crackdown on motorists using fake police licence plates as cover for their illegal activities. In a letter issued on Thursday, National Police Chief Neth Savoeunn said such activities have affected the reputation of his force and must be stopped.

Mr Savoeunn said the National Police will be cooperating with the Ministry of Economy and Finance to examine vehicles that are ostensibly using fake plates for nefarious means. “If police find someone who uses fake National Police number plates, they must be fined according to the law,” he said.

He said all National Police vehicles are listed as state property and officers can verify fake plates by checking if the vehicle they are on is listed as state property. Preap Kol, executive director of Transparency International Cambodia, said the planned crackdown is a good idea, but must also include identifying police officials who put fake plates on their personal vehicles not listed as state property.

ThaiVisa, it's also in French

I aways have a chuckles when I read SEA police worried about their reputation.

Easy put normal plates on all vehicles State or otherwise, the absence of a Road Tax disc is not that uncommon here, why have special plates , seems stupid to me.
