Type O Visa extension

Featured Replies

Hello There,

I'm a US citizen currently in Thailand on a Type O visa. My 90 days is about to expire and I only need to extend for 30 days and have airline ticket already purchased. Please let me know the best way to do this! I  My wife and I were married in the US so I'm not sure if our US marriage certificate is considered valid proof. I've heard we could need an affidavit from US embassy...? Anyone with experience on this please help a dude out !!! Thank you !!!

You can not get 30 day extension on a non-O visa entry.

You can apply for 60 days as married to a Thai.

From Police order 138/2557

2.24 In the case of visiting a spouse or children who are of Thai nationality:
Each permission shall be granted for no more than 60 days.

1. Application form.
2. Copy of applicant’s passport.
3. Copy of household registration certificate.
4. Copy of national ID card of the person having Thai nationality.
5. Copy of a marriage certificate or copy of a birth certificate.

If your wife is Thai and has an ID card an Tabian Baan  You can extend for 60 days using your marriage certificate Your wife must accompany you when application is made.

There is no 30 day extension available to you.

-- The "married to a Thai" extension price is the same as for any other reason for extension..............

They will accept your US marriage certificate for the 60 day extension.

For a one year extension you would have to register your foreign marriage at an Amphoe which requires the affidavit and certified translations of both.

@Willybman - what immigration office will you be using?

I ask because you may also need some proof of where you are staying and info from your landlord.  The policy is different at different immigration offices.

Worst case, consider your first visit for the 60-day extension a "dry run", and go well before your current stay is going to end, apply, and find out exactly what they want.  If all goes well on the first try, you can be pleasantly surprised.  Otherwise, you will still have time to sort the docs.

Thank you for all the responses! Yes we have all the other necessary documents. Just wasn't sure if they accept US marriage certficate. Thanks for clearing that up. My visa expires in one week though. Once we submit the application for 60 day extension on Monday  I have the sinking feeling this won't be approved same day ! I'll have one week before visa expires. Any experience with how long 60 day extension application will take? Or if it's approved after my expiration date but application is put in before exit date, is that at least ok?

If not, I guess I'll be booking a ticket to Cambodia or Burma ! Thank you for helping with any experience/advice you have with this !!

The application will be approved on while you wait after it is accepted and the fee is paid.

The extension will start from the date your current permit to stay ends.
