Transfer Extension of Stay to New UK Passport

Featured Replies

(1) What needs to be sent to the British Embassy to get the letter required by Immigration (specifically Chaengwattana) to transfer my extension of stay to the new passport?

(2) Am I right in thinking that this can be done by post, and that there's no charge?

(There's nothing about this on the Embassy website, and Googling hasn't cleared things up for me.  I have emailed them, but goodness knows how long it will take for a reply.)

i done mine last yr.you should have had the letter with your new passport, giving immigration permision to trans .your visa status and extension dates into your new passport.

I didn't get such a letter - probably because I did the renewal in the UK - so I now need to get it from the Embassy here.

As said you should get the letter when you pickup your passport. Info here: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/491945/Visa_Transfer_Information.pdf

The will send one by email if you don't get the letter, loose it or apply for your passport somewhere else.

Thanks for the link.

So, if I understand correctly, they'll just email me a blank form which I fill in myself and take, with my passports, to Immigration.  Right?

And a second question:  is it correct that Immigration will require photocopies of all pages in my old passport (which I've read elsewhere on this forum)? Or just the usual key ones (as for 90 day reporting, extension of stay)?

Yes they will send you a blank form to complete and give to immigration.

Copies of every page of your old passport that has a Thai visa or stamp for here.

You will use this form. Tranfer stamps new passport.pdf

I didnt get a letter and I didnt need one. I just took the old and new passports into immigration and asked them to transfer it. It was free. Jomtien, four years ago.

When I got a new pp the IO at CW gave me a list of things needed to tx visa ext, where item#2 which I got with pp is listed as optional, but they certainly asked and checked it at time.

Early 2015 in Jomtien and I needed the form so either tightened up since you did yours or yet another example of selective action......

They emailed me a copy but sent an original in the post - had an "official" stamp on it. This was 2 years ago so may have changed and my emails to consular enquiries were dealt with pretty promptly and efficiently at that time.

New p/p had moved to Bangkok went to C/W with Embassy letter, they said cannot transfer

have to go to JOMTIEN ( where the last stamp was applied) all the way to PATTAYA had to go

back to C/W can"t remember why got a one day overstay, just a heads up go where the last

entry was issued ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I emailed the Embassy.  They replied a few days later, and were perfectly happy to EMS the letter to me, free of charge, and I've now received it.

However, surely the whole process is utterly pointless.  Anybody can request the letter (just need an email and a postal address) and can fill in anything on the form whatsoever.  Still, it's far from the first time that Immigration has asked for something utterly pointless.

Went to Chaengwattana yesterday to make the transfer.

I was surprised that it was the same queue for transfer as for extension.  Seventy ahead of me.  Three hour wait.  Could have been worse, I guess.  Didn't have a reentry permit to be transferred, so that saved some time and queuing.

Didn't need all pages of the old passport photocopied.  Just those relating to the transfer of extension of stay to my previous passport, and the chain of annual extensions, plus the data page.
