using a work permit to get a visa for a family member

Recommended Posts

We are trying to find a visa solution which would enable my friend's son to stay in Phuket and go to school here.My friend has a work permit but he has the type of work permit for which he  has to leave the country every 3 months(not the type which enables him to stay in the country without having to leave for 1 year). He has been told that you can't use  his type of work permit to get a visa for his son,his son is 11 years old.My friend's wife also has the same every  3 month leave the country type of work permit. The school his son would like to go to is a tutor school and can't get him a visa.Your advice would be much appreciated.

A work permit has nothing to do with getting a dependent extension. It based upon the parent or spouse having an extension of stay issued by immigration. Your friend apparently has a multiple entry non-b visa.

The child could could get an extension of stay based upon attending school. Not sure why he would want to go to a tutor school since that would not show that he has been attending school for future studies.

If the child's mother is your friend's wife she could get an extension as his parent if he was on an extension for attending school. She would need to have 500k baht in a Thai bank to apply for the extension.

Why is your friend not asking this question bc he can clearify what he mend to refering he got a workpermit but have to leave the country where did he get his visa ?

There are many WP holders who do not have an extension of stay. It is common. They must go in and out every 90 days on a non-imm B visa.

They do not have an extension usually because they do not meet the minimum salary criteria or the company they work has not done the necessary paperwork to satisfy the immigration department.
