After a fantastic time in Peru, decided to go to Ecuador.The scenery from the airport to Quito was spectacular and I was happy to have gone ahead with the trip . The hotel was lovely, I was given a top floor suite, complimentary fruit and drinks and a charming welcome. I thought maybe they had confusion me with some other famous personality. After a good nights sleep and breakfast, I started to réalise why. I was given strict instructions not to go out late at night, only take a hotel taxi with the same chauffeur, a list of preferred restaurants, the money exchange had armed police on every floor, it was upstairs. Police vans rode the streets in wire mesh covered protection with guns peeping through. Visits were complicated . Must admit that it’s a beautiful country but I had no idea that it was THAT dangerous. Worth it though, great memories and no one ripped me off.
