BANGKOK, 4 August 2017 (NNT) - The metropolitan police chief has held a meeting with heads of educational institutes and military leaders to solve the issue of fighting between student of different schools.

Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau Pol Lt Gen Sanit Mahathavorn chaired the meeting with the administrators of Bangkok Technology School and Pathum Khongkha School, as well as army officers. The meeting concluded that there was no need to temporarily close either school, given that the fighting involved only a small number of students.

The police commissioner believed that closing the schools would unnecessarily impact the entire student body. He argued that though student fighting has not demonstrably worsened from past years, modern technologies have made it easier to record video evidence and share it on social media, making it appear as though the situation has deteriorated.

Pol Lt Gen Sanit called for all parties-- schools, parents and guardians, alumni, local communities, and police-- to work together to solve the problem.

According to the administrator of Bangkok Technology School, the fight involved a stabbing by former students that dropped out in 2016. The administrator of Pathum Khongkha School claimed that the two academic institutes enjoy close relations and hold joint activities.
