Rimmer
Military wants Bali Hai businesses to close 2 days for fleet show PATTAYA – The military wants companies operating at or near Bali Hai Pier to shut down for two days in November so it can stage its international fleet show. Maj. Gen. Popanan Luengpanuwat, head of the National Council for Peace and Order in Banglamung, told a July 27 meeting of navy and army personnel, members of the Tour Bus Association, Marine Department and boat operators that Nov. 17-18 will be the busiest time for the 10-day fleet show and to allow it to run smoothly, companies using the pier are being asked to shut down. That means no boat trips to Koh Larn, no scuba diving and other watersports based in and around the pier. The military said the boat owners at the meeting agreed to the request. It’s uncertain what percentage of pier-based operators attended. canopus1969
Why do they not play with their little boats off Sattahip as that is supposed to be their home port ? Pattaya is not interested and does not need - or even want - to see them trying to copy the Navy Lark
champers
Apparently there are 40 countries sending ships; and their crews; to the event. After 3 ....."What do you do with a drunken sailor, what do you do with a drunken sailor ...?" No doubt we will find out.

When the Thai military requests a business to suspend its operations, the message is clear - it's an order. There's no real due process of law that owners can appeal to except the junta vis a vis the NCPO. Not a good idea to get their attention.
WhizBang
Will businesses that are "forced" to close be compensated? The message is very clear, this government does not care about the people. Not that previous civilian governments were much better, but at least with a civilian government there was legal recourse, and the people could vote them out.
